The end is here! My time is up—my time as an intern that is.
Fooled you, didn’t I? Well, Forum, after four months, I can say I have completed my high school career and wrapped up my internship here at Early Stages. Though I am excited to commence my life as a first-generation college student, everything is going to be completely different. However, I am ready.
If I had to give advice to the next high school intern, this is what I would say. At first, being at Early Stages felt so strange. I was placed in a different environment with different people. I was used to being surrounded by teens and teachers interacting with each other in classrooms and here I was sitting in front of a computer, wishing I was back with my friends. Although I missed them dearly, I ultimately realized the importance of stepping away from the current vantage point and viewing life at a different scope.
When I gave Early Stages a chance I was introduced to a variety of new experiences—from food, to different work skills—I can now say I am a pro at Microsoft Excel and even writing a blog. All of this could not have been done without having met some of the coolest people ever.
In no particular order, Jackie, Madeleine, Julia, Melissa, Faith, Kristin, Kehinde, and Edward have made such an impact on me, I will literally never forget them. Thanks to them and their work at Early Stages, my knowledge bank has had nothing but deposits—despite how corny that sounds.
I am just immensely grateful and overwhelmingly happy to have played a part in Early Stages and hope to continue my life, armed with what I have taken from my time here. Thank you all so much !
Signing off for the last time,
Amanda Lizette Rios
