Magic Bird a Slam Dunk

Early Stages students at MAGIC/BIRD

Last week, Early Stages students attended some preview performances of MAGIC/BIRD, which officially opens April 11th.  The show was a slam dunk for all of the students who went!

Nadine Kellogg, a teacher from Isaac Newton Middle School, said: “What a fabulous show!  The boys were so thrilled to sit in the orchestra and see all the action up close.  They found it wonderful, funny, and a story that they could totally relate to.”

MAGIC/BIRD tells the tale of the legendary 1980s rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.  With three championships, bragging rights, and the future of basketball laid out on the court (and stage), students were invited to check out the score.  Regarded as one of the most important rivalries and friendships in NBA history, the story of Magic Johnson and Larry Bird taught students about the importance of overcoming obstacles, and that the obstacle itself does not define the man—instead, the man defines himself through coping with the obstacle.  MAGIC/BIRD appeals to a wide audience of theatergoers and sports enthusiasts alike.  In fact, Joshua from University Heights High School felt that the show was “pretty awesome, enjoyable, and engaging.”
